Well, my name is Jennifer Higel. I was born in 1988, and I’ve had (all but) uncensored access to the internet since I was 12-years-old. There’s no way my mother could have known how quickly that would radicalize me. Despite America’s best efforts, I’m quite loud about social topics that concern everyone, like basic human rights, and the fight for freedom in women’s healthcare. I don’t believe that any of us are free, unless all of us are free, and there’s no amount of orange-tanner or taxes that are going to change my mind about that.
I care for two cats; a big boy, part Maine-coon cat named Rubert, and a chunky little Tortie girl named Woolfie. Last year (2024), we found a Mast-Cell tumor on Rubert’s face. We continue to visit the doctor regularly, and have ongoing travel, doctor, and medicinal costs associated with his treatments. (I do not have any open donation events, but my linktree is available). Bubby has been with me for about 12-years. As soon as he was old enough to safely be moved from his mother, I took him in.
We started in a very small town in Mid-Coast Maine, and coasted through a chain of tiny-towns until we landed in Nebraska in 2023. It was just the two of us for a long while. My husband, Taylyn, came just before our big move to the Mid-West. Actually, he’s the whole ‘why’ when people ask. Nebraska wouldn’t ever have been my first choice. It wouldn’t have been anywhere in my top 40.
It still isn’t.
